Who’s porous and yellow and loves a Krabby Patty dish? His best friend is a pink starfish. He lives in a pineapple because the smell is his thing. It’s none other than SpongeBob Squarepants, who’s now a star at Burger King.
The fast food chain announced that it’s teaming up with The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants to launch a SpongeBob menu ahead of the film’s release on Dec. 19.
“Our long-standing partnership with Burger King has always been built on bold ideas and shared creativity — but this SpongeBob campaign is next-level,” said Michelle Hagen, executive vice president of worldwide partnerships at Paramount Pictures. “We’re diving deeper than ever into the world of Bikini Bottom and bringing fans the most epic FUN and never-been-done-before. It’s the ultimate mash-up of imagination and innovation.”
Arrr ya ready to look at the meal items inspired by Bikini Bottom? They’re available for only a limited time, so let’s dive in!
SpongeBob’s Krabby Whopper
While it’s not technically a Krabby Patty, the fast food chain is serving up a quarter-pound beef burger on a yellow square bun (with color from natural spice), stacked with melted American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions, mayo and ketchup.
What people are saying: One taste tester was disappointed that it’s not a show-accurate Krabby Patty and said it’s “just a normal whopper with a bun that’s dyed yellow. Nothing new here.”
Another review said, “All in all, the Krabby Whopper was a banger, and if I were Plankton, I too would try and steal the formula.” They gave it a 5 out of 5.
Mr. Krabs’ Cheesy Bacon Tots
The coin-shaped tots are filled with melted cheese, bacon bits and fluffy potatoes, and served in a treasure chest carton, just like at the Krusty Krab.
What people are saying: One taste tester couldn’t get enough of them, writing, “I can’t be left unsupervised around these. I will eat 50 of them. You will have to take me out of this Burger King in a wheelbarrow.”
Another reviewer said, “Ugh, pass on these. The artificial taste of the bacon is pretty awful, and it dried out in about 3 seconds.”
Patrick’s Star-berry Shortcake Pie
Inspired by SpongeBob’s best pal, Patrick Star, this dessert is a slice of strawberry shortcake pie, with strawberry- and vanilla-flavored layers, a cookie crumb crust, shortcake cookie crumbles and topped with pink star-shaped sprinkles.
What people are saying: One reviewer gave it an A grade, saying, “I'm not usually a fan of any fast-food dessert, but this was sweet and creamy, and the crust was tasty, too.” Another taste tester called it their “personal favorite of the entire meal.”
Pirate’s Frozen Pineapple Float
Shiver me timbers! This frozen pineapple-flavored drink is topped with tropical flavor cold foam.
What people are saying: One reviewer said it was their favorite among all the meal options, describing the drink as “kind of like a classed-up pineapple Slurpee, refreshing and sweet.” They gave it an A+.
Meanwhile, the drink was underwhelming for another taste tester, who said, “I wish I'd mixed the foam more into the drink to make it less flat-tasting, especially once you get to the bottom, but overall, I thought it was decent.”
Bikini Bottom Bundle
Burger King is offering all four of the SpongeBob menu items bundled into one meal in a pineapple-shaped “Under the Sea” box, with a medium-size Pirate’s Frozen Pineapple Float and an eight-piece Mr. Krabs’ Cheesy Bacon Tots.
King Jr. meal
For the littlest SpongeBob fans, they’ll get a special-edition King Jr. meal in a pineapple-shaped “Under the Sea” box, with one of six SpongeBob toys and a limited-edition SpongeBob crown.
